This is a beautiful leather cover, but smooth and slick with no grip at all. I returned it and will find a pebble finish that I can hope is more apt to stay in my hand or on my lap and not prone to sliding. The color is beautiful and so is the suede lining…fit is perfect. I just don’t need a ‘Woops’ moment.

We’ve had our Kindle 2 and the Cole Haan smooth leather cover for six weeks. The Kindle is great, but expensive enough for us to want to protect it. Leather can be a real pleasure to handle, so we chose this cover. The Cole Haan cover is quite expensive, but very nice leather, much nicer than the Amazon bonded leather cover. It holds the Kindle by a metal clasp like the Amazon Kindle cover. As yet we’ve had no trouble with the clasp causing damage to the Kindle, as the M-edge covers are reported to do. That would be a disaster. The business card pocket gives me a feeling of security should I loose the Kindle and a responsible person find it- my phone number and E-mail address are on the card. If you want a cheaper Kindle cover, leather, and no metal clasp that might damage your Kindle, look at the Tuff-Luv Napa Leather case cover ($39.99 plus shipping at Amazon). The Cole Haan smooth leather cover is not currently available at Amazon or anywhere else on the web that I could find.

After using this cover (the Smooth Leather version) with my K2 the day it arrived, I must say it’s just not worth the money. At the beginning of June, I noticed that two of the four elastic retaining straps are tearing away from the leather base. And since it’s now past the return policy date, I’m stuck with a $99 piece of worthless leather. I bought an M-Edge cover (as I’d done for my K1) and am very happy with it – for $60 less.

Yes the leather is beautiful but the product fails miserably as a Kindle cover. It is a pain, has a nonsensical business card holder and I don’t find that it folds easily and it interferes with the left side buttons. The elastic straps on each corner are kind of low budget for a “beautiful” case.
The case really has no ingenuity like I have come to expect with accessory makers for iPhone by some of the specialty case designers.
I consider this a more expensive accessory than necessary for a gadget that is already priced higher than it should.
Bottom line is that I take my Kindle OUT OF THE CASE when I am reading and put it back in when I am finished. It feels better and is more comfortable.
Having also just purchased the DX, I purchased the standard Amazon case and like it much more and do not find it obtrusive in any way when compared to the Cole Haan case. Yeah the leather may not be as nice but it is more functional.

It is as elegant and classy as the beautiful Kindle 2 and both a bit grandiose about their price…Their true value ought to be at about 15% less and still it’ll be “well priced…”
